Fear and what drives us to eat!

One of the most empowering lessons I have been blessed to receive at this point in my life is my understanding that for most of my life I have not been able to live in the present moment. To be where my feet are, if you will.

When we are full of fear, we are either living in the past or living in the future. We are afraid of losing something we have or not getting something we want. So we are focused on anything other than being in this present moment, which is in fact the only place that we can affect change in our lives.

Are you ready to let go of your suffering?

Yes, that could be considered a confrontational question, but in fact it is a very important one I urge you to consider. Sometimes we are so attached to the stories and events of our past, and how they have defined our lives and who we've become, that we can't possibly imagine a future looking much different from where we are today. This is exactly where I spent most of my life, and I have to say the result, unfortunately, was predictable - more suffering.

Women, Food and God

On Saturday March 6th I was in a Barnes & Noble in Baltimore, MD searching for Geneen Roth's newest book, Women, Food and God. It was released just the day before and I had read a bit about it on Geneen's website, and was anxious, like a kid a Christmas, to pick it up. The store's inventory system stated they had copies of the book in stock; however, there wasn't one to be found on the shelves anywhere. Hmmph - I really hate it when that happens.

"Binge eating to become bona fide entry in disorder bible" by Sharon Kirkey, Canwest Publications April 29,10

Anyone who suffers with BED (Binge Eating Disorder) and reads the title of an article written by Sharon Kirkey of Canwest Publications, published today in several of their daily metro papers across the country, "Binge eating to become a bona fide entry in disorder bible" they, like me, will likely respond with "Well it's about time". Sharon interviewed me on a bit about my experience and included it in the article.

Mindful vs. Structured Eating....which way out

There are two schools of thought when it comes to tackling or managing Binge Eating and Binge Eating Disorder, and they are both quite different. Mindful or Intuitive eating is on one side, which refers to eating what your body, not mind, wants until it's satisifed, but not over-stuffed, in a calm and mindful matter. Structured eating on the other side typically refers to eating three meals and two snacks per day and following a somewhat regemented eating schedule.

What other people think of you is none of your business!

That is a very powerful statement and is worth repeating....  What other people think of you is none of your business.

SMART Goals!

I believe that you are in the perfect place in your life right now, and exactly where you need to be. I think that this is true for all of us. This is incredibly powerful because it means that by evaluating where your are, you can then choose where you want to go, and start making daily decisions based on supporting those goals.

"Binge Eating Disorder is the most common eating disorder in the U.S."

According to the Binge Eating Disorder Association or BEDA (www.bedaonline.com), Binge Eating Disorder is the most common eating disorder in the U.S. "It affects more than eight million men and women and accounts for three times the number of those diagnosed with Anorexia and Bulimia together. "

This new staggering information only confirms the overwhelming need for greater support and assistance for those who are living with, and attempting to conquer, their eating disorder.

Binge Eating Disorder and Acceptance

Recently, by way of an interview, I participated in a news segment on Binge Eating Disorder for 100 Huntley Street, which is a popular Christian TV show here in Canada. The focus of the interview for me was on my personal struggle with BED rather than what I do as a Life Coach or even in my religious or spiritual beliefs.
